Why SWNZ matters
Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) covers about 96% of New Zealand's vineyard area and is the gateway to most premium export markets. Membership requires annual scorecards for both vineyard and winery, plus an independent audit every three years. Cepaos compiles scorecard evidence from your day-to-day records so the annual return is essentially a review, not a rebuild.
Prerequisites
- NZ Winegrowers member number entered in Settings > Compliance > NZ.
- Vineyard blocks linked to a SWNZ vineyard ID.
- Spray diary maintained in Vineyard > Operations.
- Winery records covering water, energy and waste.
1. Open the SWNZ scorecard
From the sidebar, go to Compliance > SWNZ Scorecards. You'll see the current scorecard year with completion percentage per section.
2. Vineyard scorecard
The vineyard scorecard auto-fills from:
| Indicator | Cepaos source |
|---|---|
| Spray applications | Vineyard > Spray Diary |
| Soil health | Block notes and analyses |
| Water use | Irrigation log |
| Biodiversity actions | Sustainability module |
Review each row, attach photos where required and tick off practice questions.
3. Winery scorecard
The winery scorecard pulls energy use (kWh), water use (kL), and waste volumes from the cellar book and utilities log. Add manual answers for governance questions (policies, training).
4. Generate the submission PDF
Click Generate SWNZ submission. The PDF maps every answer to the SWNZ question reference, with evidence attached as hyperlinks for the audit team.
5. Audit preparation
In an audit year, click Prepare audit pack. Cepaos bundles three years of scorecards, spray diary exports, and water/energy summaries into a single zip.
FAQ
Can I track Organic NZ alongside SWNZ?
Yes. Run them as separate certification records. Cepaos cross-references shared indicators so you only enter the data once.
What happens if I add a new block mid-year?
Add it to the vineyard module and link it to your SWNZ member ID. It enters the current scorecard at the next submission window.
