Managing vineyard blocks
How to create, organize and manage your blocks and vineyards in Cepaos, including the interactive map and cadastral data.
What is a block in Cepaos?
A block is the smallest vineyard management unit. It represents a parcel planted with a main variety, a training system and homogeneous conditions. Cepaos organizes all vineyard information around blocks: harvests, treatments, phenology, irrigation and costs.
Create a block
- Go to Vineyard > Blocks in the sidebar.
- Click + New block.
- Fill in the form fields:
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | Internal identifier (e.g. "B1 Malbec North") |
| Main variety | Yes | Planted variety (predefined list of authorized varieties) |
| Area (ha) | Yes | Planted hectares |
| Planting year | No | Year the block was planted |
| Rootstock | No | Rootstock type used |
| Training system | No | Trellis, pergola, etc. |
| Planting density | No | Vines per hectare |
| Row orientation | No | North-South, East-West, etc. |
- Click Save.
Interactive map
Cepaos includes an interactive map where you can visualize and draw your block polygons.
Draw a polygon
- From the block record, click Edit on map.
- Use the drawing tool to mark the block's vertices over the satellite image.
- When you close the polygon, Cepaos automatically calculates the geo-referenced area.
- Save the changes.
Benefits of the map
- Full visualization of your whole estate in one place.
- Automatic, precise area calculation (useful to cross-check against the cadastre).
- Spatial context for irrigation, treatment and harvest decisions.
- Export the map for presentations or importer reports.
Cadastral data
From Blocks > Cadastre you can link each block to its official parcel reference.
Why enter cadastral data?
- Stock balance declarations require identifying grape origin at the parcel level.
- Appellation certificates require proving that grapes come from parcels registered in the delimited geographic area.
- Importers increasingly ask for parcel-level traceability.
How to enter cadastral data
- Go to Blocks > Cadastre.
- Select the block.
- Enter: district, sub-district, cadastral reference, parcel number.
- Save.
Organize your blocks
Filters and search
The block list supports filters by:
- Variety
- Area (range)
- Planting year
- Training system
Use the search bar to find a block by name.
Summary view
Each block shows a summary with:
- Historical production (kg/ha per vintage).
- Last spray application.
- Current phenological stage (if you use the Phenology module).
- Production cost per kilo (if you use the Costs module).
Edit or delete a block
- Edit: click the edit icon in the block row. You can modify any field.
- Delete: only possible if the block has no harvests or linked records. If it has history, you can mark it as Inactive so it doesn't appear in operational lists but keeps its history.
Multiple estates
If your winery has vineyards in different estates or regions, you can organize blocks using the name field as a convention (e.g. "Altamira - B1", "Agrelo - B2") or contact support to configure custom groupings.
Integration with other modules
Blocks are the foundation for:
- Harvests: every grape reception is linked to a block.
- Field book: every activity entry is associated with a block.
- Phenology: phenological observations are recorded by block.
- Water balance and irrigation: monitoring is organized by block.
- Production cost: grape cost calculation is done by block.
- Traceability: the block is the origin of the entire traceability chain.
