How to comply with EFET wine labelling rules

Step-by-step guide to ensuring wine labels meet Greek Food Authority (EFET) requirements using Cepaos.

2 min lectura

What is EFET

The Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) is responsible for enforcing food safety and labelling regulations in Greece, including wine. Wine labels must comply with EU Regulation 2019/33 as implemented in Greek law, covering mandatory information such as origin, alcohol content, allergens, and nutritional declarations. Cepaos validates your label data against EFET requirements.

Prerequisites

  1. Wine lots with complete traceability in the cellar book.
  2. Lab results linked to each lot (alcohol, SO2, allergens).
  3. Organisation data complete in Settings (name, address, bottler identification).

Step by step

1. Access labelling compliance

In the sidebar, under Compliance, click EFET Labelling. Your wines are listed with a compliance status indicator.

2. Select a wine to validate

Click on a wine. Cepaos displays all mandatory label fields:

Mandatory FieldCepaos Source
Sales denominationProduct configuration
Actual alcohol (% vol)Lab module
Provenance (Product of Greece)Vineyard blocks
Bottler name and addressSettings > Organisation
Lot numberCellar book
Net content (mL or L)Bottling record

Nutritional declarationLab module (new EU requirement)

Missing fields are highlighted in red.

3. Validate PDO/PGI label claims

If the wine carries a PDO or PGI designation, Cepaos cross-references the compliance module to ensure the label claim is justified by origin data.

4. Check new EU requirements

From December 2023, EU wines must include an ingredients list and nutritional declaration (or a QR code linking to this information). Cepaos generates the required data for e-labels.

5. Generate label data sheet

Click Generate Label Sheet. Cepaos produces a PDF with all mandatory and optional information formatted for your label designer.

6. Export for review

Click Export > PDF to share the data sheet with your label printer, EFET inspector, or export partners.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cepaos generate the actual label design?

No. Cepaos provides the data and validates compliance. The visual design is produced by your label designer or printer.

How do I handle the e-label QR code?

Cepaos generates a digital landing page URL with ingredients and nutrition data. Link this URL to a QR code on your physical label.
