What is TTB Form 5120.17
TTB Form 5120.17, Report of Wine Premises Operations, is the monthly filing required by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau for all bonded wineries in the United States. It reports grape receipts, wine production, storage, bottling, removals, losses, and ending inventory — all in wine gallons.

Step by step
1. Access the report generator
In the sidebar, go to Reports > Declarations > TTB 5120.17.
2. Select the reporting period
Choose the month for which you are preparing the report.
3. Review pre-filled data
Cepaos displays a summary organized by 5120.17 sections:
- Beginning inventory: carried forward from the previous month's ending inventory.
- Receipts: grape receipts (converted from tons to wine gallons), wine received from other premises, imported wine.
- Production: gallons produced from fermentation, blending additions.
- Removals: tax-paid removals, tax-free removals (exports, government), transfers in bond.
- Losses: spillage, evaporation, laboratory samples, voluntary destruction.
- Ending inventory: calculated as beginning + receipts + production - removals - losses.
4. Verify and adjust
If discrepancies are found, the system highlights them:
- Yellow: minor variance (less than 1% of total volume).
- Red: significant variance requiring investigation.
You can click any line to drill down to the underlying cellar book entries.
5. Export
Click Export 5120.17. Options available:
- PDF: formatted to match the TTB form layout, ready for review and filing.
- CSV: for spreadsheet analysis or import into TTB's e-filing system.
Wine gallon conversions
Cepaos handles all conversions automatically:
- Grapes: tons to wine gallons using a configurable factor (default: 165 gal/ton reds, 155 gal/ton whites).
- Bulk wine: liters to wine gallons (1 wine gallon = 3.78541 liters).
- Bottled wine: cases to wine gallons (standard 750ml x 12 = 2.378 wine gallons per case).
Filing the report
The 5120.17 is filed through the TTB's Permits Online system or submitted on paper. Cepaos prepares the data but does not submit electronically. Direct integration with TTB Permits Online is on the roadmap.
